Young Eagles Flight Rally

Each year the Joliet Regional Airport hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally which allows kids, ages 8 to 17 years, the opportunity to take to the skies with experienced volunteer EAA pilots.

The EAA Aviation Foundation's Young Eagles Program was created to instill in young people an interest in aviation. Volunteer EAA pilots have a goal of providing airplane rides to 100,000 young people each year. Worldwide, more than one million young people have received EAA airplane rides in more than 70 different countries.

Free airplane rides are just part of the Flight Rally. The hope is to build one-on-one relationships between the pilots and Young Eagles, giving a new generation a chance to learn more about the possibilities that exist in the world of aviation, and to allow pilots to pass along the knowledge and enjoyment they have experienced in aviation over the years. Before the flight, a short ground school is held to explain the various parts of an airplane and how they work.

Following the flight, each Young Eagle receives a certificate making him or her an official Eagle Flight Member. Their name is entered into the World's Largest Log Book which is on display at the EAA Air Venture Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
